The modern lifestyle is non-stop and filled with daily stressors that most people shrug off as a fact of life. We’re overbooked, overworked, and constantly putting out more than we’re taking in. With poor diets, lack of sleep, and an overflow of the stress-induced, body-ravaging hormone cortisol flooding our systems, its no wonder our health as a culture is failing. We have a tendency to wait until a problem is unbearable, and then modern medicine only masks the symptoms instead of addressing the root cause. We treat our bodies as an afterthought, and then curse them when they fail us.

Think of a car. It requires annual tune ups, but you aren’t off the hook for the rest of the year. Engines need oil changes, tires need air, cars need washing, and we need to regularly refuel to keep the vehicle running effectively. All the parts may be separate, but they all speak to each other, and when one part breaks down, it can affect the entire system.

Our bodies are remarkably similar. A yearly check up doesn’t ensure a healthy system. Cortisol can be produced even with small amounts of stress and can wreak havoc with our digestive, nervous, and immune systems by blocking good hormones and commands from the brain. Stress sends our adrenal glands into overdrive, which makes it super easy to get sick – especially if we aren’t regularly boosting our immune system with good food and getting enough sleep.

Massage therapy is one of the best methods of upkeep to ensure your body, like your car, is running at pea efficiency. Massage kicks your circulatory system into high gear, filtering blood and getting healthy oxygen to all the major organs. It reduces stress, and cortisol, which gives your brain and your adrenals a break. It promotes skin elasticity and health, breaks up adhesions in your muscles and improves range of motion, and gives you an opportunity to relax, recharge, and return to your life with renewed vigor and energy.

If you spend time and money to make sure your car is running properly, why wouldn’t you put that same investment into your body? Unlike a car, you can’t trade it in for a new model down the line.

Massage sessions are available in a variety of session lengths and package deals. For other therapies that can be incorporated into your massage session, see the Reiki and Energy Work pages.
